Police ticket 27 drivers during pedestrian safety operation on MLK

Police spent about two hours at two locations on MLK. Officers contacted 36 drivers, some of whom were able to escape with warnings.

The driver “hit at least one vehicle and nearly hit multiple other vehicles and pedestrians,” according to authorities.

After the collision, one lane of the freeway was shut down “to accommodate crews inspecting the overcrossing.”

As of Tuesday, BPD said, no eyewitnesses had yet come forward. Authorities have asked community members to share tips if they have them.

The CHP arrested Rahila Jarrett just after 2:30 a.m. Friday on suspicion of evasion and impersonating a police officer.

Authorities did not immediately know whether the man lived in the area or was visiting.

The sexual assault occurred during school hours, police said.
